Baht 300,000 Charitable Gift Given By Phuket Gay Festival to Tsunami Related Needs

The Phuket Gay Festival announced on Friday, January 7, that gifts totaling 300,000 baht were presented to three tsunami affected organizations.

All of the money was from donated funds accepted in the Royal Paradise Complex, with the Tangmo Club leading the way in the fund raising drive over the past week. Patong and Phuket does not have a large gay population, and the funds are from residents and visitors, with great thanks and respect for those contributing to this effort. The fund raising will continue for an indefinite period of time, and is handled with transparency and accurate oversight from a reputable staff of Festival members. During the general meeting in Patong, mid-day on Thursday, Baht 50,000 was presented to the Patong Chief of Police, Khun Teeraphol Thipjaroen, for the benefit of families of policemen affected by the tsunami. The Chief accepted the gift with thanks in behalf of the families of the policemen who would benefit from the financial support.

The Phuket Gay Festival has always had an excellent relationship with the police in Patong, particularly in administering Traffic Safety during the Festival Grand Parade, as well as helping and guiding guests and visitors at the festival however they have needed assistance.

During the evening on June 6, Baht 200,000 was presented to the Patong Hospital Administrators to assist in the work in saving and aiding so many tsunami victims and their families. Patong Hospital has been operating at far beyond it's normal capacity, with doctors, nurses and an amazing number volunteers doing whatever has been possible to cope with the tsunami disaster. It has been the first point of triage and treatment for thousands of patients, and has been acknowledged for this work by government and business spokespersons.

On June 7, the festival presented Baht 50,000 to Wat Leam Phet in Patong. Wat Leam Phet has provided shelter and care for Patong residents for years. Most recently Wat Leam Phet has been sincere in HIV related issues, and with the tsunami, has had an overwhelming task of dealing with deaths and ultimately the bodies of the tsunami victims. The presentation is at 3:00 PM, Thursday, by the Festival Organizers, with many of the donors joining in.All of the money was from donated funds accepted in the Royal Paradise Complex, with the Tangmo Club leading the way in the fundraising drive over the past week.
