Thursday, September 26, 2002
Bangkok is about to join more than two hundred other major cities in the world that host an annual gay film festival according to an announcement from the Bangkok Pride Coalition.
The festival, part of Bangkok Pride 2002, will be held in co-operation with the Goethe Institute, and will be officially called "Bangkok Pride's First Gay & Lesbian Film Festival" and will include 15 films from 5 countries - most of the films focus on issues of gender, relationships, and fitting into society rather than on issues of sex according to BPC. All are from independent filmmakers and have been produced within the last five years.
The director of the Festival is Michael Shaowanasai, a multi-disciplinary artist and independent filmmaker living in Bangkok. Curator Mathias Struntz of Rosebud Entertainment, Cologne, Germany is the festival's curator.
The festival premiers on 5 October and all programs will be screened in the Goethe Institute's theatre. Weekend programs are planned for October 5, 6, 12, 13 and 26. The series continues in November on 2, 9 and 16 and ends on Sunday, November 17.
More details about the film festival and about other Bangkok Pride 2002 activities are on the
BPC website.
