sex change with a difference
Sunday, July 21, 2002

Thailand has long been famous for sex changes - some local clinics and doctors are known internationally for their skills and the number of operations performed. Now scientists at Khon Khan University are getting into the act, performing sex changes on - wait for it - fish!

Apparently male fish grow larger and faster than female fish, so fish farmers prefer males (don't we all dear!) so the boffins have been searching for a way to get all the newly hatched females to suddenly change into males without having to resort to toxic chemicals or genetic engineering or any of those other nasties that so turn off consumers.

According to the report in the Bangkok Post today they have apparently now succeeded, so the fish farmers are happy, the consumers are happy and the male fish are all "happy and gay" together in the tank!
