Songkran, people seem to either love it or hate it (and I am definitely in the second camp), but at least it is over for another year. If you were not too busy getting (or trying to avoid getting) wet, there was a lot more going on around the traps to keep us all occupied.
Art seems to be an on-going attraction, with regular exhibitions at Dick's Cafe Bangkok, ICON in Pattaya and other bars and venues as well. The exhibition of watercolours by Khun Chaiyo at ICON was popular, and as if things were not hot enough already, "Hot Season" - a celebration of the male body by Khun Anan is gracing the walls of Dick's until the end of next month - more details and pictures on the Dick's Cafe web site.
Down Pattaya way, they made up for throwing water around for longer than in other cities by organising more social calendar highlights as well - rasing money for the Pattaya Gay Festival charities at the same time! Things got underway with the dinner at Brunos at the end of March, then there was muscles and featheres everywhere for the Disco Divas revival at BoyzBoyzBoyz on the 7th, followed by Maisie Trollette in cabaret at Le Cafe Royale on April 17, and Throb & Splash had a joint birthday party for Kevin and Mark on the 24th. Also The ICON showbar's new show "Chicago" has been popular since its opening on the 18th. More pictures and reviews are on the boxertravels and pattayagay web sites.
New on the scene in Bangkok is Samsara, an upmarket mixed venue breathing new life into the old Rome/ICON location in Silom Soi 4 - the place has been completely renovated but there are at least some familiar faces among the staff. They are still in their soft opening stage, but are already attracting a good crowd for a laid-back dinner or drink early in the evening or more serious music for dancing and cruising later in the evening.
Still in Soi 4, coming up next month, Balcony has their 5th birthday on 6 May, and the Mr Telephone contest will be held on 18 May - see the calendar for more details on what else is coming up!
