scene & heard
scene & heard - october
Saturday, October 05, 2002

September was certainly a busy month around the traps particularly if you are in any way interested in the gay festivals in Bangkok and Pattaya - lots of interesting developments and events from both camps!

In Bangkok, the Bangkok Pride Coalition is gearing up for Bangkok Pride 2002 in November, and two major developments were the announcement of official approval for a pride parade, and the launch of a gay film festival in Bangkok.

The parade, planned for 17 November as the climax of Bangkok Pride 2002, will be held in Silom Rd in conjunction with the usual "walking street" activities in Silom on Sundays, and will be followed by a giant stage show.

The film festival, also part of Bangkok Pride 2002, will be held in co-operation with the Goethe Institute, and will be officially called "Bangkok Pride's First Gay & Lesbian Film Festival" and will include 15 films from 5 countries - most of the films focus on issues of gender, relationships, and fitting into society rather than on issues of sex according to BPC. All are from independent filmmakers and have been produced within the last five years.

The film festival starts this weekend, and screening continue into November - see the calendar here and the Bangkok Pride website for full details.

Meanwhile Pattaya Gay Festival has been have a great time as well. PGF came to Bangkok in September with a fun night at Dick's Cafe (pictures on Dicks Cafe website), and after a very successfull set of events in August and September, the PGF committee have announced that they have now raised more than 1.6 million Baht this year for the charaties they are supporting - and there are still quite a few more events before the final parade and parties in Pattaya in December!

For more info on festival fundraising and events see the calendar here and the Pattaya Gay Festival website.

Keep those cards and letters coming in.
